Mystery Block and Giveaway!

Hi Friends!

Yes, I know today is the blog hop and I'm going to post my block and all the info... but first let me show you what has been going on at my house!

The quilt in this picture with the red yard ties was made by my grandmother. She used old clothing and left over fabrics from her sewing. Grandma Bessie was a wonderful seamstress and would re-make clothing. This quilt a treasure to me.. she lived to be 93. Sorry the picture doesn't do it justice. I'm going to reproduce this quilt someday. I love it just that much!

Here are my puppies taking their afternoon naps. They have been to the groomers and came home with "candy corn" scarves.. they are so adorable.. I just love them!

Remember the blocks I showed you on the last blog? Well here is what the finished block is going to look like...what do you think? I'm having so much fun with it.
Have you seen Lisa's new book????
I'm going to be giving a copy away on my blog... Woo Hoo! I might even get it signed while I'm in Houston visiting. You will need to leave a comment and I will be picking the lucky winner on November 7th.

Here is a picture of my block for Week 4 of the Christmas Blog Hop!
Click on the link below to get the pattern.

I am making kits for this block... I have a few in stock and will be making more. I'm leaving for Houston on Sunday and will be back on Nov. 1st so I can get more kits out then. Please be patient and know that I will fill all orders as fast as I can. The price for the kits is $10.95 which includes all wool and background. How great to have a quilt made by your Grandma. As far as I know, my grandmas were not quilters.
Your dogs' groomer provides seasonal scarves? How cute is that?
I have almost ordered Lisa's book twice now--right down to having it in my "cart". Then I wait, thinking I will find it in a nearby quilt shop, but no luck so far. Must be I am meant to win this. : )
Very fun block, Joyce!

It is a pleasure to have quilts your grandmother has made. I have a couple of my grannies. Sheveven made one out of polyester. I remember going with her to Thrifty store to get old blankets to put inside of them. Only regret is that I didn't start quilting till she was gone.

I have a few of my Mom Mom quilts. They were made from feed sacks. There was 1 that all of the grandkids wanted on their bed when visiting. After she had passed that quilt was now where's to be found. Several of us had requested it & I think she gave it away knowing that more than 1 of her grandkids would want it. One way to keep peace in the family. But my Mom did find a scrap of the material in her stash so I did get a remembrance.
And I like your sleigh & tree.

I am so glad I found your blog through the Christmas Blog Hop. I love your HST block and your sleigh pattern. Thank you for sharing. I can remember my great grandmother making tie quilts. I wish so much that I had one of her tie quilts now but when I was very young and foolish I just thought it was just another quilt. Now I realize that he would be a cherish treasure to have one.

Thank you so much for the adorable sleigh pattern We are so Blessed to have such talented designers offering their patterns with us. It would be wonderful as well to be entered into the draw for Lisa's book I have been wanting to take a closer look at it. We recently had to clear out our basement to have it insulated and I had to rent a storage unit to hold all my bins of fabric even after going thru them and giving away the fabric I will not use (I think) The only way I do not buy fabric is if I never go into a fabric store!!! Have a wonderful time in Houston and thanks again.

My earliest memory of quilting is hand tying a utilitarian wool quilt with my granny. It was simple squares of wool cut from clothing meant to keep them warm on cold winter nights. I couldn't have been six years old. This post brings back sweet memories. Thanks!

Thank you for the cute sleigh pattern. I really love your HST's in a Churn Dash - perfect! I have one very utilitarian quilt made by my grandmother for my father when he was a trucker and slept in the cab. She used men's wool suiting and very drab cottons - not a beauty at all but I loved the weight of it when I was a kid. As far as I know she never made any other quilts.

I loved your grandma's quilts. I also have Grandma's quilts-a couple made by my grandma and one made by my great grandma. I cherish these and try to take care of them to pass on to the next generation. My grandmother was really the person whom I looked up to and influenced me most in my life. She actually taught me sewing/quilting by tearing up her old blue jeans and we made pot holders from them. Your sleigh block in beautiful!
