What a Mess, but A Good Mess!

Here at Geoff's Mom house we are under construction! This is my sewing room all moved into my guest room.

More stuff! I couldn't get to my gift wrapping paper it was way way in the back behind the closet door.. so of course I had to go shopping and buy more. You wouldn't believe how much wrapping paper and supplies are behind that "buried door"... lol

Alas, my sewing machine is out of use for the time being. I miss her... doing some hand work is fun and I have actually been doing a little knitting.

My new cork floor is looking great... I am so excited. I have picked out new paint and cabinets.. I didn't think I would out grow my space but yep.. I did it! Time for more storage for the beautiful fabrics that keep arriving at me house. (I think I am a fabricholic..I must make a confess).
I am having a new custom cutting table made with lots of storage.. I will take a few more pictures as things here progress.

I am leaving in a couple of weeks to teach at the Lake Powell Quilting retreat... I can hardly wait! It is such a great group of women and they are so much fun!

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas! On to the New Year!

Take care my friends!

Keep those comments coming.. the drawing for the kit and magazine is right around the corner..time passes way to quickly!

Memories

Memories of Scotland

I made this quilt a couple of years ago. I have been receiving lots of orders from quilt shops around the country who are starting to do this quilt as a Border of the Month. If your local shop isn't offering it get them to join in the fun or you can certainly get a pattern from my website. Inside the pattern you will read what inspired me to make this quilt. I will give you a little hint: My great-great Grandfather was the Coachman at the Stirling Castle in Scotland (Where the movie "Braveheart" was filmed). I am Scottish and very proud of my heritage.

I have been thinking a lot about family lately this is the first year without my mom and it has been different. My dad is so lonely, he was mom's constant companion and helper. I have learned so much these last few months and I treasure the time I am able to spend with my dad.

I have had a hard time getting into Christmas decorating this year but I am sure enjoying Pinterest and other blogs seeing all the festive decorations.. Thanks for sharing everyone!

Sad Day for us!

Today I had to let my Babe go to be with my mom in heaven.
I have had her for over 14 years. She was my strong little rock. I will sure miss her.

Abbie is lonely too! She is 6, so hopefully she will be around for quite awhile.

It's A Wonderful Day!

I have been working on several projects at once. I am one of those people who can't just work on one project and get it done, then move on to the next one. I have to keep myself busy with several things at same time. Does that mean I am A.D.D.? I just know that it works for me!

Today is my sister's birthday.. I am so glad she is still here with us.. we had a real scare a couple of months ago her blood pressure went to 50/30 and she went septic. She spent over a week in intensive care and in rehab. After losing Mom this year I am not ready to lose my sister too. So we have a lot to be Thankful for this year!

I am going out to Dad's house today to cook Thanksgiving dinner. I will spend the night and have fun cooking with Dad. My dad was always the cook in our family.

Here is one of the projects I am working on:

This is going to need a name... help me please! You know when you leave a comment and I pick your name for the pattern you receive the first published pattern..and possible another surprise! This is just in the works so plenty of time for naming. I haven't decided what to do about borders..I love to hear your ideas.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Hug those you love!

Life is good here!

Happy Veterans Day!

Today I honor my Mom and all of our Veterans! Mom was so proud of her service in the Navy.

I miss my Mom but know she would be proud of me. She was happy for my love quilting. Mom did wonderful embroidery work. I have quilts with her stitching on them and they always make me smile.

I wonder sometimes.

This cartoon certainly describes me... lol

I took this picture and sent it to a friend..she said "I think something is missing"..

I laughed and said "yes, I am adding lots more flowers, berries and stars to the border"..maybe I got in too big of a hurry to take the picture. This is a fun project and I have enjoyed working on it while watching my tv shows. The Utah Utes lost yesterday which made me sad but it is fun to watch football while stitching (I probably miss a lot of plays but it doesn't matter I enjoy the excitement of the game)
I am working on a BOM project I will try and share a few blocks soon. Keep your comments coming the drawing will be soon!
This week I am going to St. George with some friends to have a Card and Quilt making retreat. We are so excited! I will take pictures.
Hope you enjoy the day!

Garden Guest Pillow
I decided to giveaway this new pattern along with the "Grand Old Flag" kit. This pillow turned out so dang cute I just needed to share it.

I can't believe Fall Market is this week. We have been finishing up patterns and packing. I have the best helpers. One of my helpers is my proof reader. After 3 of us read a pattern and didn't find a mistake Dottie found 2 mistakes. Wow. She is the best! I try to keep my patterns simple to understand for any level of quilting experience.
Paulette will you please send me your address: geoffsmompatterns@gmail.com

This is a new pattern called "Carry On" using "Floral Gatherings" and "Floral Gatherings Shirtings" designed by Primitive Gatherings for Moda Fabrics.  It was great working with such wonderful fabrics.
(P.S. Gayle, if you are reading this, you are the lucky winner of the "Carry On" pattern.  We loved the name.  Will you please email your address?  It is the first pattern hot off the press! geoffsmompatterns@gmail.com).  Enjoy my friends!

The barn wood frame can be purchased at Hobby Lobby.

"Circling Stars"

Most fabric in this runner was made from using "Grant Park" designed by Minick and Simpson by Moda Fabrics.  I had a great time in Brazil and I will put pictures here later. I will tell you about my new Brazilian friends.

Been Busy How About You?

This is a new row quilt in progress. Thought I would give you a quick peek. I design as I go. I put things on my design wall and make a few blocks to audition. I love the saying on this. I found it on my trip to The Woolen Willow in West Virginia.
"Be True, To Yourself, Your Word, Your Friends!"
So I think I will name this row quilt "Be True". There will be some pieced and some appliqued blocks.

I am working on another picture and it will be called "On The Farm"

"For The Guest Room".  I love the textures in this new quilt. Lots of plaids and woven fabrics were used to make this one.

I leave for Brazil on Wednesday and I am so excited. My girlfriend has asked me to speak to about 150 women about quilting. That should be interesting since I don't speak Portuguese, but as we all know quilters speak with pictures and their hands. Geoff is more than capable of running the business while I am gone. He is busy getting patterns written and he seems to be "happy" doing it. lol

Thanks for stopping by. I promise to have a great giveaway when I return. We all need another "gifty".

Great Visit With Pat Sloan

The podcast interview with Pat went well. She is a wonderful lady to visit with.  If you would like to listen here is the link:

http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/magazines-more/quilting-podcast
I am working on several new hand projects to take with me on my long plane ride to Brazil. I leave next week and I can hardly wait. Geoff has been working feverishly on getting the new patterns ready.

Three new quilts from the quilter are ready for pick up this morning. I can hardly wait to see them. Isn't it amazing how after they are quilted they even look better? I enjoy doing bindings so that is what I will be doing tonight. The weather here is feeling more and more like fall and it makes me want to snuggle in to a little handwork and watch tv by the fire.

Hope you have a wonderful day and I will chat with you again soon!

Sewing, Rain and Football, Does It Get Any Better?

It is raining today here at Geoff's Mom's house so I have been having fun sewing and making soup! Tonight is a football game on TV and I will be going out to dad's house to watch with him. We enjoy yelling at the TV together when the games are on. We miss mom but we are happy to have each other.

Here is what is on my design wall. Love the new "Floral Gatherings" and "Floral Shirtings". I am ready to sew the quilt blocks together but I am short a little fabric and it will be coming in the mail.

I am thinking of a name for this quilt. Any ideas friends?????

The goat pillow is coming along. I will keep you posted on the decided name. Have a great day and keep smiling.

San Diego Quilt Show Fun

I was so excited a group of women got together weekly to sew on Fridays. Their rule was "Always dessert on Fridays!" I thought that was so cute! They made my pattern "It's A Grand Old Flag". I LOVE THEM. It was great to see all their work. They did a wonderful job. Thanks ladies!

Here are a couple of the students. I taught "Survivors". They all survived my teaching. These great ladies loved to sew so we had a marvelous time. Rosie's Calico Cupboard held a trunk show of my quilts. All the quilts shown are now available on the website. Here are a few pictures.

Kathy of Cardiff Farms and I visited "The Country Loft" where Kathy was teaching. It was great to see her again and talk to her students. We wanted something to stitch. She gave Louise and I a cute needle keep kit to take home with us. Louise has hers finished but I was the driver so I didn't quite get mine done.

The winner of the Sep 2 drawing is "Me and My Stitches". Wow, she is a lucky lady. We randomly draw winners and she has won twice lately. Thanks so much for all your comments. I am back and super busy. I have several new quilts in process. Hope you all are having a great day.

Happy September!

Here is a picture of a new project. It needs a name my friends! Please help me find a cute name for this new pillow, wall hanging, or picture. I haven't quite decided what to make yet. Do you have any suggestions? I love to get everyone's ideas. If the name you choose is picked I will make sure you get the first published pattern. Have a great day and super September!

Coming Soon to a Quilt Shop Near You

Geoff is in the process of writing the pattern for Rustic Star.   I named this quilt Rustic Star because I was with my girlfriends quilting and one of the husbands came over to me and said "Hey, I know that quilt.  My wife just made it." And I thought "Really? I just designed it."  But I thought it so dear that "Rusty" thought his wife was so talented that she had already made the quilt even though it hadn't left my design wall. Kim and Rusty are two wonderful people. He is so proud of her quilting. Men.  At least they "try" to pay attention to what we make.

Life is good here at Geoff's Mom house. I leave next week to teach at the San Diego Quilt Show. I am so excited to meet new quilters. Teaching is a passion of mine and I always enjoy meeting new friends all around the country.

Keep leaving those comments coming friends. The giveaway will be here soon!!!
